Have a rest...enjoy some plants photo!

This beautiful flower belong to the family Gesneriaceae.

The species richness of Bornean gingers is quite high as the greatest concentration of genera and species is in the Malesian region. This is a flower of Etlingera sp. a ginger species pollinated by birds

Places of interest around Bintulu, Sarawak

For Adventurer,Naturalist and Nature lover

Few months back I met a couple from Netherlands at Similajau National Park here in Bintulu. As we greet and introduce ourselves our conversation turned to the topic of what kind of things a tourist can see in Similajau and are there any other places that they can visit in Bintulu other than Similajau? How to go there? Can you bring us there? etc.

It then came to me that I need to include these information here in this blog.

I hope with bits of information here in this blog will help any tourists or visitors to Sarawak and Bintulu on what does Bintulu have to offer for them. Also for fellow local photography enthusiasts to have an idea on these places where they can enjoy their photography work.

Places that I put up here are the one that I think would be interesting for you all to consider visiting. Other than that, some of these places that I am sharing here are places that no normal tourist have been to.

So coming up in my page will be information on these places:

Similajau National Park

Kamijan Waterfall

Bukit Sarang

Binyo Penyilam

Copyright infringement?

Couple of days ago I was trying to look for my blog in the internet and I searched my photography nickname in Yahoo and Google. When the result came in I found out that I have maybe hundreds of things related to my nickname showed up (not in some unmannerly website though).

I look at most of it and I understand why. The biggest contributor was whereby my photos from flickr are linked to search engine such as Flickr. Second biggest contributor is where my photos are linked to someone's website or blog featuring animals or plants that I photographed and lastly is my contribution to the scientific community via research papers published online.

I guess many of us are unaware of how many linked website have featured one single photos that we took and posted online.

My real question here is whether linking those photos without any permission from the source is a copyright infringement? Where in my case I was not notified by some or most of the blog or website operator. I know free publicity is always good but it will be good if the photos are linked to a website that helps in selling it :)

I understand that crediting the owner of the photo is a good thing, but in the end who really cares about who took the photo after hundreds of usage? I am not earning a living through my photography works but I do hope people will donate something for a poor photographer like me to invest on equipments for more good photos, don't you?.

Anyway, here is a definition of Copyright Infringement from Wikipedia that I took:

Quoting: " Copyright infringement is the unauthorized or prohibited use of works under copyright, infringing the copyright holder's exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works."

Here are some of my most used photo in the web (without me knowing):

 1. Asian Paradise-flycatcher

 2. Bat Hawk

3. Leopard Cat

I hope none of my photos here will be used without my permission. Any kind of donations are welcomed.

First couple of shot for 2012

Early birding shot for year 2012 was done in one of the park in Bintulu town. Species you would commonly find in gardens and at your backyard.

Part of my 2012 project will be compiling photos of birds around Bintulu town.
This will help the local authorities in identifying bird species and locality in Bintulu especially for waterbirds or migratory bird species.
